As the tensions between India and Pakistan continue to escalate, Islamabad has reportedly admitted losing two of its JF-17 fighter jets following a retaliation from India.

The conflict between the two nuclear-powered nations spiralled down on Thursday evening after Pakistan conducted a coordinated attack across multiple locations on the India-Pakistan border. India soon retaliated to the provocation and downed Pakistani jets and shelling.

The incident took place just a day after India launched Operation Sindoor against nine Pakistani terror camps. “We regret to confirm that two JF-17 aircraft were lost during active duty,” TOI quoted Pakistani Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR).

Jammu and Kashmir is on high alert

On Thursday evening, Pakistan launched loitering munitions targeting different areas of Jammu. In response to this, the Indian Air Defence units engaged immediately, with anti-aircraft guns actively firing to neutralise the incoming threats. According to News18, the missiles coming from Pakistan were directed at Satwari, Samba, RS Pura and Arnia, all of which were intercepted by the Indian air defence units.

Apart from this, Pakistani drones were also intercepted by Indian air defence in Jaisalmer. Multiple explosions can be heard in the area, with locals sharing visuals of flashes in the sky.

A complete blackout has been enforced in Jammu, including Akhnoor, Kishtwar, and Samba, and sirens are being heard, as per the visuals shared by ANI. Blackouts were also enforced in Gujarat districts, including Abdasa, Nakhtrana, Bhuj, Mandvi, Bhachau and Kutch.

Defence Sources told News18 that India was aware of such an attempt and it is fully prepared to thwart these attempts from the Pakistani side. “Though it’s an evolving situation, we have neutralised all threats coming from Pakistan. So far, eight projectiles, mostly surface-to-surface missiles, have been shot down by our air defence mechanisms,” the source told the network.

The attack comes hours after India foiled Pakistan’s attempt to target 15 Indian cities. While the border areas are under heavy shelling in Samba, Poonch and other sectors, Jammu was targeted with missiles and drones in an enormous escalation.

Pakistani minister denies the claim

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has rejected claims that Pakistani jets were downed by India.

“Absurd and false claims are being made by India about shooting down an F16 and JF17 fighter jets,” Tarar wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
