Rohit Sharma 'consistently put India’s needs above his own': BCCI pays rich tribute to Hitman

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) paid a rich tribute to Rohit Sharma as the 38-year-old retired from Test cricket on Wednesday. BCCI president Roger Binny hailed Rohit for his “selflessness” and the calmness he brought to India cricket’s Test side. Rohit will continue to be part of the Indian ODI side.

“Mr Rohit Sharma’s impact on Indian cricket transcends records and statistics. He brought a sense of calm and assurance to the team – both as a player and as a captain. His ability to stay composed under pressure and to consistently put the team’s needs above his own made him a truly special player and leader," Binny said.

“Indian cricket has been fortunate to have a figure like Rohit – someone who upheld the highest standards of professionalism and sportsmanship. He leaves behind not just a remarkable playing record, but a culture of discipline and selflessness that will inspire future generations.”

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia praised Rohit for the dignity and integrity he displayed as India’s Test captain.
