Senior govt officials fight over seat at Chinnaswamy’s elite box while RCB and CSK produce an all-time classic: Report

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed a last-ball thriller between arch-rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings on Saturday in which the former prevailed by just two runs despite veterans MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja’s presence at the crease till the final over of the match. The weekend showdown in Bengaluru, however, also witnessed a pitched battle of a very different nature take place off the field.

According to a report on The Times of India, families of two senior government officials, an Indian Police Service officer and an Income Tax commissioner, clashed over a seat at the iconic venue’s Diamond Box during the 52nd match of the 2025 Indian Premier League.

Tempers escalated to the point where it resulted in a full blown war of words, leading to a case being lodged at the Cubbon Park Police Station that is located right next to the Chinnaswamy.

Why tempers flared at Chinnaswamy’s hospitality box

A police official quoted in the report stated that the IPS officer’s daughter and son were watching the game from the hospitality box, with the daughter leaving her seat to use to washroom. That’s when a man, whose wife is the I-T official mentioned in the case, came in and took the seat despite being told it was occupied.

The argument soon broke out after which the man was jointed by his I-T commissioner wife and their son. The IPS officer and his wife, on the other hand, were at home when they received a call from their children, upon which they rushed to the stadium.

The IPS officer’s wife went on to accuse the I-T official’s husband “of making unwelcome physical contact and intruding on her (daughter) privacy with an intention to offend her”. The elite box allegedly did not have any police officers present for Saturday’s match.

The Cubbon Park police registered a case against two unknown persons under BNS sections 351 (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 75 (sexual harassment which includes physical contact involving unwelcome overtures) and 79 (insulting a woman’s modesty).
