ATM charges revised
Starting today (May 1), the Reserve Bank of India’s revised rules on ATM charges have come into effect.
As per the new guidelines, customers will be allowed a limited number of free ATM transactions each month - three in metro cities and five in non-metro areas. These include both financial and non-financial transactions.
After the free limit is crossed, users will be charged Rs 23 for every additional ATM or Cash Recycler Machine (CRM) transaction. However, this fee does not apply when depositing cash using a CRM.
If a customer uses an ATM belonging to their own bank, only financial transactions will be counted. In the case of other banks, both financial and non-financial transactions will be included in the monthly limit.
Hearing in case against ex-Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Michael Jeffries
A status hearing is scheduled today in the case involving Michael Jeffries, the former longtime CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, who faces sexual trafficking charges.
Jeffries has been out on a $10 million bond after pleading not guilty in October to federal charges of sex trafficking and interstate prostitution.
According to prosecutors, Jeffries, along with his partner and a third man, allegedly enticed men to attend drug-fuelled sex parties in the Hamptons by promising opportunities to model for the brand.
Jeffries stepped down from Abercrombie in 2014 after over 20 years at the helm of the brand, which was known for its preppy style and shirtless male models in its marketing.
Prosecutors also claim that attendees were at times asked to wear costumes, use sex toys, and endure painful injections intended to cause erections.
Labour Day: A tribute to workers
Every year, May 1 is celebrated globally as International Labour Day, or May Day.
The day celebrates the achievements of workers and the labour movement, while also encouraging awareness of workers’ rights and fair conditions.
In many countries, Labour Day is a public holiday. In India, the first Labour Day celebration was organised in 1923 in Chennai (then Madras) by the Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan.
Two separate meetings were held - one at Triplicane Beach and the other near the Madras High Court. At these meetings, a resolution was passed asking the British government to declare May 1 a Labour Day and a public holiday.
