The rain in Hyderabad on Monday turned out to be a big setback for Delhi Capitals in their race to reach the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs. Their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad was called off without a result, meaning both teams shared one point each.

Batting first, Delhi Capitals struggled early on, losing five wickets for just 29 runs due to a fiery spell from SRH captain Pat Cummins, who claimed three wickets in the powerplay. However, a resilient partnership between Tristan Stubbs (41) and Ashutosh Sharma (41) helped DC recover to a total of 133/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Unfortunately, rain intervened before SRH could begin their chase, leading to the match being abandoned without a result. For Sunrisers Hyderabad, this no-result confirmed their elimination from playoff contention as they became the third team to be knocked out this season.

How can Delhi Capitals qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs?

Meanwhile, Delhi are now placed fifth with 13 points from 11 matches. With just three games left, against Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Mumbai Indians, DC will have to secure victories in all of those to remain alive in the playoff race.

Other teams like Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans are slightly ahead with 14 points each and a better Net Run Rate. For Delhi to qualify, they will also have to hope that the results in other games go in their favour.

One more loss could make things very difficult for the Axar Patel-led side, especially with teams like Kolkata Knight Riders (11 pts) and Lucknow Super Giants (10 pts) also in the hunt. Simply put, Delhi can’t afford any more slip-ups if they want to stay in the top four.

Delhi’s season so far has been a mixed bag. They started on a high, registering back-to-back wins in their first four games. However, inconsistency has been their biggest issue since then, especially with the batters struggling and their bowling lacking impact in crunch games.

Axar Patel’s captaincy has been steady, but the team has heavily relied on individual brilliance from players like KL Rahul, Tristan Stubbs, and Mitchell Starc. It will be interesting to see if Delhi can bounce back in their remaining matches.
