Inzamam-ul-Haq has criticised Sunil Gavaskar for his remarks that even a ‘B’ team from India can beat the current Pakistan team. Gavaskar’s comments had come after India thumped Pakistan by six wickets in late February in a group match of the Champions Trophy 2025.
The 75-year-old cricket legend’s comment did not go down well with former Pakistan captain Inzamam, who accused Gavaskar of once running away to Sharjah to avoid playing against Pakistan.
“India won the match, they played well but Mr. Gavaskar should also take a look at stats. He once fled Sharjah to escape from playing against Pakistan. He is older than us; he is our senior. We greatly respect him, but you should not speak about a country like that. Sure, you have the right to praise your team as much as you want, but commenting like this on other teams is in bad taste,” Inzamam said on 24 News HD.
Inzamam gives warning to Gavaskar over his comments
The 55-year-old former batter Inzamam also warned Gavaskar to mind his language while commenting on other countries.
“Tell him to look at stats, and he’ll know where Pakistan is. I am deeply hurt that he gave such a statement. He was a great, respectful cricketer, but by making such comments, he is only demeaning his legacy. He should use his tongue carefully. I am saying this in strong words,” he added.
“Gavaskar should control his tongue before speaking about other country.”

While speaking on India Today after the Indian cricket team defeated the Men in Green in Champions Trophy 2025, Gavaskar had said, “I think a B team (from India) certainly (can give Pakistan a run for their money). C team, I am not too sure. But a B team will be very, very hard to beat for Pakistan in their current form.”
The Indian cricket team eventually won the Champions Trophy 2025 after beating New Zealand in the final, while Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals, finishing last in Group A.
