The scoreboard keeps ticking for New Zealand, and barring a few chances, India’s bowlers haven’t done much to disturb Conway and Young. In Ravindra Jadeja’s latest over, Rohit at slip makes a diving effort but drops a catch that would have dismissed Young.

It’s been a disciplined last few overs from Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja since that eight-run over from the former in the 28th over. Just one run from Jadeja’s latest over, but India need wickets before it’s too late.

New Zealand bring up their 100-run mark with a boundary off Will Young toward deep backward point. The Black Caps’ lead has gone beyond 50, 61 runs to be precise.

Will Young collects another boundary, finding the gap through mid-off, in the 23rd over. There’s still a lot of time remaining in this Test despite a full day being lost. Bumrah and Kuldeep have bowled in tandem for a while now. Another maiden over from Bumrah. It’s his fourth maiden in eight overs.

Right. LIVE action resumes after the tea break on Day 2. It’s bright and sunny out there in Bengaluru and we should have a full session to see off the day. Jasprit Bumrah bowls the first over of the session and begins with a maiden.

That shouldn’t worry the visitors much as they still have a strong batting lineup to come. New Zealand are 82/1, having taken a lead of 36 runs so far. OUT! INDIA HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 46 — their lowest Test total on home soil by a fair distance! Kuldeep Yadav is the last Indian batter to be dismissed as Matt Henry completes 100 Test wickets and completes his five-for (5/15) in the process!

It brings back memories of 36 all out at Adelaide, except that was a pink-ball Test in Adelaide and this was India playing on home soil!

Bumrah went for a pull and got a thick top-edge, and might have been safe had it not been for Henry’s athletic effort near the boundary. India on the verge of getting shot out for less than 50 in a home Test — a feat that is as rare as it can get! O’Rourke, meanwhile, collects his fourth wicket and will be hoping to sign off with a five-for.

OUT! And now Rishabh Pant marches back to the pavilion in what is the biggest blow for Team India so far today! Pant looked to defend the length delivery, only to be undone by the away movement that results in an outside edge to Tom Latham in the slips.

OUT! Ravindra Jadeja is dismissed at the stroke of lunch, getting a thick leading edge while looking to flick a length ball, resulting in a simple catch for Ajaz Patel near backward point as Matt Henry collects his second wicket!

With that, India have been reduced to 34/6 at the end of an extended morning session with Rishabh Pant still at the crease, and face the possibility of getting bundled out for less than 100 on home soil. The Black Caps pacers certainly have made the most of the overcast conditions, and it certainly was a good toss to lose for Tom Latham.

Rahul decides to poke at a delivery going down leg, and ends up getting a faint tickle that results in a simple catch for keeper Blundell.

O’Rourke breaks the patient fourth-wicket partnership between Jaiswal and Pant as the former departs for 13 off 63 balls after slashing the ball hard and getting caught at backward point, with Ajaz Patel collecting a fine catch behind square. Jaiswal was getting a tad impatient and decided to go for a cut.

Rishabh Pant does Rishabh Pant things — collecting the first boundary of the innings off the very first ball after play resumes at the Chinnaswamy after a brief rain break — this at a time when the hosts are reeling at 13/3! It’s his way of letting the bowlers know that he is not going to be intimidated by them. Southee bowls from the other end and collects a fourth maiden in five overs.

DROPPED! O’Rourke nearly gets Pant five four balls after getting hit for a boundary as Black Caps keeper Tom Blundell puts down a straightforward chance behind the stumps after Pant a full, wide delivery from the seamer. Southee continues from the other end, and this time Southee concedes a boundary for the first time today after Jaiswal gets a thick edge that runs away through the gap between slip and gully.

Players make their way back to the centre, with Jaiswal and Pant set to resume their rescue act. Lunch has been pushed to 12 pm as a result of the rain interruption.

Rain’s back at the Chinnaswamy! The Chinnaswamy groundstaff are quick to bring the covers out after the steady drizzle gradually gets heavier and results in the umpires calling the players back to their respective dressing rooms. The Indians will be more than happy to take a break in what has been a disastrous session so far.

Rishabh Pant attempted to play a reverse pull off Matt Henry in the 12th over, with the ball ballooning over the keeper and landing safely, allowing the batter to collect a single. Only Pant could have played that shot in such a dire situation. Drinks brought to the field at the end of what has been a disastrous first hour for the hosts.

OUT! Conway grabs a one-handed screamer near extra cover as Sarfaraz perishes for a three-ball duck! Sarfaraz was looking to get off the mark in style and ended up chipping the ball down the ground, playing away from the body. It was a tough catch regardless, and took an exceptional effort on Conway’s part for the dismissal to be completed. All three seamers have a wicket now. IND 10/3

O’Rourke bowls this short, aiming for Kohli’s rib cage, and the senior batter ends up gloving it to Phillips standing at leg gully. He departs for a nine-ball duck!

Southee collects a second maiden in three overs. Jaiswal, meanwhile, collects another brace off Henry in the following over after steering the ball towards midwicket.

After 4 overs, India 7/0 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 5, Rohit Sharma 2)

Jaiswal decides to play a square drive in Southee’s third over that would have run away for the first boundary of the innings had the fielder placed at point not got a bit of hand to it. The southpaw gets a brace as a result. Rohit has a close call in Henry’s second over after confident appeal for LBW is met with a shake of the head from the umpire. Henry convinces Latham to review, and while the ball hits Rohit high on the back pad between off and middle, the new ball bounce results in it clipping the bails rather than hitting it. Henry appeals for LBW for a second time in the over, this time against Jaiswal, and this time the appeal isn’t as loud. The first hour certainly will be tricky for the Indian top order.

Tim Southee starts off with a maiden, getting prodigious swing in overcast conditions at the Chinnaswamy. Matt Henry bowls from the other end, and both Rohit and Jaiswal open their accounts with a single.

“The outfield is simply superb. Great drainage. No reminiscence at all that it rained. It has been under the covers, which means it has a lot of dampness. It is quite cold when you touch it. When you touch it, it is slightly harder and it is dry underneath. New ball could nip around early on and the spinners could get some help as well”
